Power Pro Lucha – Attack on Trios (Night 3)
September 6, 2026 • Arlen Specter US Squash Center • Philadelphia, PA
Show #85

At some point in life, you realize that the mass transit infrastructure of this country creates some unusual warp zones. For instance: to traverse the PATH and MTA subways to get to Coney Island is roughly the same travel time as getting to Philadelphia on the Acela.

Emboldened by the possibility of an easy day trip, the success of a similar trip to Rahway, and helped by the slim pickings of shows in the NYC metro area, that Acela loop was my Sunday to check out Power Pro Lucha, a relatively new promotion that has been favorably described as "Chikara without the baggage". This was the final night of their three-day 16-team trios tournament, which gave half the card a structured arc, and had a lot of eliminated talent available for the remainder.

The sudden passing of Andy "The Butcher" Williams on Saturday night loomed large. Andy's loss hit hard in both wrestling and music circles; the number of uplifting stories shared over the weekend makes it clear how universally beloved he was, which is rare in this industry. As is tradition, we opened with a ten bell salute.

The show from there was breezy and fun. The standout match was a wild eight-man tag: Mala Fama and ChocoPro's BestBros on one side, the legally dubious Tetrominoes and Action Jackson on the other.

I challenge anyone to watch a Mei Suruga match and not have the best time.

We also had the in-ring return of Terra Callaway, who has been through so much over the last year; a bit of silliness with Thief Ant taking on the incredible named Baron Minde; a scramble that included Thad Claybrook, "The Sultan of Squash"; Skayde and Ultimo Ant taking on the Legion of Rot; and a spot-heavy (and interference-heavy!) face off between Danjerhawk and Poisynhawk. There's a lot of lucha hawks and ants!

As for the tournament itself: happy to see a lot of new-to-me talent in the teams of Big League Chew and GummiBruger, got thrown by the spooky gimmicks of Hands of Fate that it took me until the end of their first match to realize these were familiar faces, and the eventual win for The Very Good Dolphin State Champs was well deserved. (And I am not at all biased because I got stickered by Julezee during his entrance.)

A great night, and one I'm already eyeing a return trip for in November. We'll see!
